Premier League sack race predictions, odds and betting tips – Solskjaer leads the market despite weekend success

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Jose Mourinho

Premier League managers hold one of the most precarious positions in world football. With public opinion prone to swaying from one end of the spectrum to the other after every result, top-flight bosses are never more than a few games away feeling the squeeze and getting the sack.

Last season, six of the Premier League’s head honchos were axed before Christmas, and though we are still waiting for a chairman to swing the axe for the first time this term, we’re expecting some movement soon.

As the season progresses, we will keep track of the latest Premier League sack race betting odds and developments below. See our predictions for the first top-flight boss to leave their post below.

Premier League Sack Race Predictions

Favourite: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Manchester United)

Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in to 4/6 to be the next in line for the sack last week following a calamity of a week that saw them lose at home to Arsenal before a shocking performance in Turkey resigned them to a 2-1 loss at Istanbul Basaksehir.

The Norwegian manager did put the brakes on his out-of-control slide towards the job centre with an assured display at Goodison Park on Saturday, but he remains the bookie’s favourite to get the axe first.

An international break is the perfect time to make a mid-season change in management, but the Old Trafford hierarchy may find it difficult to pull the trigger after such an impressive performance against Everton.

The Red Devils have a trio of relatively winnable games coming up against West Brom, Istanbul Basaksehir and Southampton, so we think Solskjaer has a relatively good chance of turning this around for the time being.

West Brom manager Slavan Bilic

Next in line: Slaven Bilic (West Brom)

Baggies boss Slaven Bilic has been in the firing line since the start of the season, and another poor showing at the weekend has seen his odds shorten further.

Bilic is currently 21/10 to be the next manager to leave their post, and it’s hardly unjustified. West Brom are still winless in the Premier League and have lost five of their eight outings.

Equally worrying is the fact they have scored just one goal in their last five matches, and their trip to Old Trafford after the international break could very well turn out to be a managerial crunch match between the two most under-pressure coaches in the league.

Defeat for either team could result in a termination, and with the Baggies in such dire straits backing Bilic to be disposed of looks preferable.21/10Slaven BilicNext Premier League Manager to Leave their Post

Premier League sack race market movers

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Manchester United)

Last month: 11/2

This month: 1/1

We’ve already talked about Solskjaer’s rapid deterioration, but it’s worth another mention. It wasn’t too long ago that the Manchester United manager was 10/1 to face the axe first, and only two weeks ago he was 11/2. Now, after those dreadful showings against Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir, he’s all the way in to 1/1.

It’s easy to see why with long-term target Mauricio Pochettino on the market and an international break commencing this week, but those cries for his head have quietened after Saturday’s excellent result.

We think he has a bit left in the tank.1/1Ole Gunnar SolskjaerNext Premier League manager to leave their postBET HERE

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard (Chelsea)

Last month: 17/2

This month: 12/1

The odds for Frank Lampard becoming the first Premier League boss to leave have wildly fluctuated since the start of the season, and it’s good news for the Blues legend this time around.

Last month he came in from 10/1 all the way to 17/2 after an underwhelming start to the Premier League and Champions League campaigns, but he’s back out to 12/1 after an excellent run of results.

Chelsea have won four in a row in all competitions since our last Premier League sack race update, keeping a clean sheet in three of those and scoring an impressive 14 goals in the process. Victories against Newcastle and Rennes would put him in good stead ahead of a more difficult run of games between then and Christmas.

That being said, the Chelsea hierarchy are infamously impatient and Lampard is only a couple of bad results away from a crisis.12/1Frank LampardNext Premier League manager to leave their postBET HERE

Mikel Arteta Arsenal manager

Premier League sack race longshot to watch

Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

Odds: 50/1

Arsenal may have ended an unwanted record at Manchester United last weekend, but their hosting of Aston Villa on Sunday evening brought all of their troubles flaring back to life.

Mikel Arteta has won fewer games and lost more than compatriot Unai Emery did in his first 28 Premier League games in charge of the Gunners, as well as scoring fewer goals.

They have strengthened their defence, but at the moment Arsenal look utterly bereft of creativity going forward and, for a traditionally attack-minded team, that will grate on the famously outspoke supporters.

With tough games against Leeds, Wolves and Spurs coming up in the three weeks following the international break, there is every chance Arteta’s odds could be plummeting in the coming month.
